This guide will help furniture manufacturers and retailers exporting products to the EU market (including NI) understand the EU General Product Safety Regulations (EU) 2023/988, effective December 13, 2024. This new EU Regulation differs from GB, and different rules apply
The EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) aims to ensure the safety of products placed on the EU and Northern Ireland markets.
This includes products that are intended for use by consumers, as well as commercial or non-domestic products that may reasonably find their way into the hands of a consumer. It also includes secondhand or reconditioned products and contains requirements and obligations regarding the manufacture, supply, distribution, marking, after-sales monitoring, market surveillance, and recall of those products.
Published on 23 May 2024, the new Regulation will replace the General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) 2001/95/EC following a transitional period that ends on 13th December 2024.
