Update on the new proposed 'Fire Safety of Domestic Upholstered Furniture Regulations'
In early May 2024, the Office for Product Safety and Standards (OPSS) announced it would publish its response to the consultation on the proposed ‘Fire Safety of Domestic Upholstered Furniture Regulations’ before the Parliament recess in August 2024.
The consultation took place between August and October 2023. It was also stated that the regulations would be published before the end of 2024. However, with the dissolution of Parliament on Thursday 30 May 2024, all business in the House of Commons has ceased until a new government is formed in July 2024.
FIRA is closely monitoring developments related to the new proposed ‘Fire safety of domestic upholstered furniture Regulations’. At present, they have not received clear information regarding the future or the impact on implementation timelines. However, FIRA assures its members that once there is more clarity, they will promptly provide updates and are ready to participate in further consultations with the OPSS and the government if necessary.
