UK / Ireland flammability regulations clarification
Since the introduction of the UK Furniture & Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations (FFFSR) in 1988, there has been an understanding that goods produced to meet the UK FFFSR are accepted in ROI.
After some recent enquiries, where National Bed Federation members were being asked by retailers if there are any changes to this post Brexit, NBF technical manager Tristine Hargreaves reached out to the UK Government Department for Business Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) Office for Product Safety & Standards and the Irish Governmental Department for Enterprise, Trade and Employment for clarity.
The Irish Department for Enterprise, Trade and Employment have today confirmed that their position on acceptance of the UK Regulations has not changed post Brexit so there is continued acceptance of the UK FFFSR as the UK and Irish Regulations mirror each other in a lot of ways and Brexit has not affected this.
This is excellent news, with official clarification that there are no changes required at this time.
