Standards meeting report - hardware for furniture
Despite lockdowns across Europe the development of European Standards continues.
CEN TC207 WG8 – the European Committee responsible for developing Standards for furniture Hardware recently met online to continue their work. Two standards were discussed.
A draft document - Hardware for furniture – Test and evaluation methods for the corrosion resistance of furniture fittings
As the name suggests it is a draft standard looking at standardizing the way the corrosion resistance of hinges/drawer runners is measured. This is important as these items are often used in kitchens and bathrooms. The document review was completed and it is recommended that this document proceeds to the next stage.
A draft document - Furniture – Star bases for seating – Requirements and test methods
This document is looking at component testing of chair bases so that seating manufacturers can have the reassurance that the components they buy are fit for purpose. Work on this document is a little slower as it has a big impact on office chair manufacturers.
