Standards meeting report – Electrical furniture
A meeting of the International standards committee, ISO TC136 TG1, was recently held in Nuremberg, Germany. The purpose of the Task Group is to liaise with IEC TC61 who have been developing an electrical standard for furniture - IEC FDIS 60335-2-116 116 Household & Similar electrical appliances – Safety. Particular requirements for furniture with electrically motorized parts.
The meeting highlighted some significant differences in opinion between the representatives of the two committees regarding the content of the standard. In particular ISO TC136 is concerned that despite the title the standard does not fully deal with safety of furniture, only the features associated with the electrical functions.
