European Standards meeting report – Common test methods for furniture
A meeting of CEN TC207 WG9, the working group tasked with producing test method standards for furniture recently met in Paris. The main topic of the meeting, chaired by FIRA International’s General Manager, Phil Reynolds, was to discuss comments on the revision of the European Stability standard EN 1022 Furniture. Seating. Determination of stability.
This standard is currently being revised and the committee met to answer all the comments raised during the revision process. The next agreed step is to circulate the standard for Formal Vote, the last stage before becoming an official standard.
If accepted as a standard this will have a significant impact of furniture standards, as the current version of EN 1022 is referenced by nearly all seating standards. The proposed revision now has a single set of test methods for all types of seating, as well as requirements.
