REACH - Potential Further Restriction of Formaldehyde
Following a European Commission, ECHA has started preparing a restriction dossier on the use of formaldehyde and its releasers in articles and in mixtures in concentration <0.1% by consumers.
ECHA has made an entry in the Registry of Intentions (RoI) with an anticipated submission date of 11 January 2019.
ECHA has called for evidence on the use of formaldehyde and formaldehyde releasers in mixtures or in articles. Formaldehyde is commonly used in the furniture industry and is present in many contract and domestic products. It is often used in the form of urea-formaldehyde resin in the manufacture of medium density fibre board and plywood. This is an important opportunity for stakeholders within the industry to provide evidence on the potential impacts of further restrictions on the use of formaldehyde.
