New General Product Safety Regulation Guides for the Furniture Industry

Starting in December 2024, the General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) 2001/95/EC will be replaced by:

• EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU 2023/988-GPSR)

This means that the current GB GPSR has diverged from the EU GPSR with the publication of this new EU regulation, which provides differing obligations for economic operators selling into the EU market (inc. NI).

The guidance for the GB GPSR has also been updated with changes caused by Brexit and republished by FIRA as:

To help our members, we will be publishing two new guides:

1. GB General Product Safety Regulation (GB GPSR) Guide for the Furniture Industry: This guide will be available later this week and will serve as a valuable resource for helping furniture manufacturers and retailers comply with the new regulations.

2. EU General Product Safety Regulation (EU GPSR) Guide for the Furniture Industry: This guide will address the specific product safety regime in the EU, which includes rules different from those in Great Britain.

These resources aim to support the industry in navigating the upcoming changes effectively.
