New FIRA guide to the European Timber Regulations
FIRA members can now access a new guide, published by FIRA International, on the EU Timber Regulation (EUTR).
Launched in October 2010 the EUTR came into force in March 2013, with the aim of preventing illegally harvested wood from being placed onto the market within the European Union.
Those who do not comply with EUTR may face a fine, seizure of products or a trading suspension.
The new guide is aimed to help Furniture Industry Research Association members understand more about the EUTR, and how to remain compliant.
Sections within the guide include:
- The Regulation, including scope, enforcement, penalties and sustainability and environmental issues
- Roles of operators, traders and agents within the EUTR
- Achieving compliance
- Due diligence and forestry schemes
