New childcare standard published
A new European safety standard for cots has been published. BS EN 716-1: 2017 Furniture. Children’s cots and folding cots for domestic use. Part 1 Safety requirements replaces the previous 2008 version with immediate effect.
The standard follows on from the recent publication of BS EN 716-2: 2017 (test methods). The key changes to the standard are:
- An update of the references to clauses to match with EN 716-2
- A modification to the requirements for drop sides
- A modification to the requirements relating to the distance between footholds and top of cot sides/ends
- Updates on instructions, warnings and markings for cots.
