France issues update to list of reference standards under Childcare Decree 91-1292
An updated list of reference standards for child use and care articles offering presumption of conformity with French Decree 91-1292 was published in the Official Journal of the French Republic the 24th of March.
The Decree 91-1292 of 20 December 1991 on the prevention of risks arising from the use of childcare articles, makes it an offence to manufacture, import, possess or offer for sale or distribute, whether free of charge or for a fee, childcare articles that do not meet the requirements of this decree. Specific mention of reference standards offering presumption of conformity is given in Article 4 of the Decree.
For the purposes of this Decree, a childcare article is defined as any product intended to provide or facilitate the sitting, washing, sleeping, transportation, and physical protection of infants and young children up to 4 years of age. It should be noted that the Decree does not apply to accessories for hygiene, bedding and equipment for the transport of children in private cars (this last is covered by United Nations Regulations R44 and R129).
