European Standards meeting – outdoor furniture
A meeting of CEN TC207 WG4 was recently held in Paris. The meeting focused on potential revisions of two standards:
EN 581-1 Outdoor furniture. Seating and tables for camping domestic and contract use. General safety requirements
This standard deals with finger entrapment and shear and compression points. The revision has been prompted by the publication of CEN TR 17202, which was writing to provide a common rationale for these issues. The current proposal for EN 581-1 significantly changes this rationale and therefore FIRA is not currently convinced it should be supported.
EN 581-2 Outdoor furniture. Seating and tables for camping domestic and contract use. Mechanical safety requirements and test methods for seating
This proposed revision was prompted by the publication of the stability standard EN 1022. The proposals are to reference EN 1022 but reduce the loads for testing reclining camping seating and loungers. There is also a proposal to add an additional test for loungers to assess ‘collapsibility’.
