EN 16139: 2013 – Strength, durability, and safety – requirements for non-domestic seating
It has been agreed at CEN TC 207 that the EN 16139 will be revised by the Working Group 3 (Office Furniture). Originally, EN 16139 was the responsibility of the WG5 (Non-domestic furniture Working Group). The work has not started yet, but it is expected that this work will start at the next meeting of WG3 at the end of September 2020. It is likely that there will be some dimensional requirements for non-domestic seating in order to ensure the ergonomic fit of chairs to the users who regularly use these chairs at such places as meeting rooms, general work areas in the offices working at a table or a bench. Other changes are likely to be the ones to align the test methods and requirements with other seating products bearing in mind the types of uses to which these chairs will be subjected to.
Any comments on the existing standard or changes manufacturers/ designers/users would like to see in the revised version should be sent to Levent Caglar (LCaglar@fira.co.uk) at FIRA International to ensure that industry’s views are considered in the revision of this standard.
