Downstream user import notification deadline approaching

October sees the deadline for UK companies that import chemicals from the rest of the European Union to register their use under the Downstream User Import Notification scheme which suspends the obligation to register under UK REACH for up to six years depending on the risk and volume profile of the substance.
Before leaving the European Union UK companies could buy chemicals from anywhere within the EU/EEA without any additional obligations under the EU REACH system as the manufacturer or supplier would have taken the responsibility for its registration as long as the application was included in the registration dossier.
