Confirmation of standard for cot mattresses
BSI have now confirmed the correct standard for cot mattresses.
In 2017 the European standard BS EN 16890: 2017 Children’s furniture – Mattresses for cots and cribs – Safety requirements and test methods, was published. However at the time BSI did not confirm that this document superseded the pre-existing British Standard, BS 1877-10:2011+A1:2012 Domestic bedding. Specification for mattresses and bumpers for children’s cots, perambulators and similar domestic articles.
This has caused confusion in the market place as manufacturers did not know which standard was applicable, with different manufacturers assessing product to different standards.
BSI have now confirmed that the European Standard, BS EN 16890: 2017, is the most current and applicable standard for cot mattresses and that it supersedes BS 1877-10.
