Clarifications from Trading Standards regarding contract chairs in a domestic environment
Due to the shift in home home working since the start of the pandemic, the Research Association's Industry Steering Group concerning the fire safety of contact seating in domestic settings has now obtained further clarifications from Trading Standard's National Product Safety Group on the applicability of Furniture & Furnishings (Fire Safety) Regulations 1988 to the contract seating used in domestic environments.
The below guidance will help members understand what regulations are applicable to specific products. Clarification relates to
- ‘Legacy’ chairs (those marketed and supplied for contract use prior to pandemic/mass migration to home working)
- Contract chairs which are marketed and supplied for contract use since the start of the pandemic/ mass migration to home working
- Contract chairs which are marketed and supplied with the conscious intention or expectation that amongst their intended uses is home working
- Mesh back or seat contract chairs
