Amended standard for kitchen furniture published
A heavily amended British Standard for kitchen furniture has been published.

Part 2: Fitted kitchen units, peninsular units, island units and breakfast bars – Performance requirements and test methods, is the main British Standard for assessing the strength, durability and suitability of kitchen carcases, wall units and associated hardware for both domestic and social housing use.
The amended makes significant changes to the standard. Test methods now refer to the latest state of the art European test method standard for storage furniture – BS EN 16122: 2012 Domestic and non-domestic storage furniture. Test methods for the determination of strength, durability and stability. In addition the standard now allows for the use of a test worktop to be used when assessing certain functions and corrects an issue affecting carcase legs that was apparent in the previous version of the standard.
