The GB General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) aims to ensure the safety of products placed on the GB market.
This includes new, second-hand, and reconditioned products, as well as commercial products that may end up in a consumer's house. Furthermore, the Regulation governs processes for tracing potentially dangerous products on the market to ensure that they can be traced and removed to avoid any risks to consumers.
The 'GB General Product Safety Regulations Guide for the Furniture Industry' replaces our previous guide to the General Product Safety Directive (GPSD) and includes updates to reflect changes following Brexit.
This guide provides an overview of GB GPSR, including:
- The primary objective of the GB GPSR and what is a 'safe' product
- What products are covered and not covered by the GPSR
- Who does the GB GPSR apply to? With a close look at producers and distributors and their obligations
- Placing products on the market and making the product available
- How to assess products for safety, including risk assessments, reasonably foreseeable use/misuse, hazard marking and warnings
- Due Diligence, including reliance on third-party information
- Technical documentation - The Technical file
- Penalties and offences
- PAS 7100: 2022 Product recall and other corrective actions. Code of Practice
Please note:
From December 2024, the EU will adopt its own General Product Safety Regulation (EU 2023/988-GPSR).
For companies selling products into the EU market (including NI), please refer to our 'EU General Product Safety Regulation (GPSR) Guide for the Furniture Industry,' which addresses the specific product safety regime in the EU, which differs from those in Great Britain.
