Association of Master Upholsterers & Soft Furnishers

Business Type Market Sector Product
Trade Association / other Domestic

The AMUSF was founded in 1947 (then as the AMU) to protect the interests of upholsterers, small furniture makers, and soft furnishers.

Today, the Association is a Non Profit Making Organisation dedicated to give help and support to its members and the wider craft community. It is still a lobbying body but it also provides diverse services to individual members including advice on sourcing and use of materials, the current fire regulations, a group buying scheme, a legal help line, a mediation service and many others benefits.

It is not possible to just ‘buy’ membership. All potential members are vetted for the quality of their work and services and only those who pass and maintain this requirement can display the crest signifying full membership. It publishes a monthly newsletter and a quarterly magazine to keep members abreast of trade news and current developments affecting the craft.

The Association maintains its own, highly regarded, qualifications in Traditional Upholstery and Soft Furnishings. Along with a number of educational partners it is active in training people of all ages these crafts which it sees as a vital contribution to the long term well-being and continuing strength of the upholstery and soft furnishing trades.
